Typically with a Windows OS upgrade change, the install process includes a backup
of the previous OS, in your case Windows ME. You should look for the uninstall,
to return to the previous OS. However, if at all possible it is best to load your
Windows OS as if it were a new installation. If you have your WinME disk, it would
be best to reload the ME OS to your hard drive. If you do the later, you will also
have to reload all of your other sofware, such as your word processor, etc. A CAUTION:
If you are unfamiliar with installing an OS, it would be best that you contact a
Microsoft tech first. Be prepared to backup any non-OS related files that are on
your OS drive - typically the C: drive.
Your licensed copy of WinXP provides you with free basic technical service from Microsoft,
and they can either help identify your computer's hardward/OS incompatibility issues,
or walk you through the uninstall/install procedure.
Good luck.
