Question about 'Things that slow down system bootup

I have a question about Things that slow down system bootup:

I have just upgraded to a P4 2.6 with 1gb ram but system takes about 1min 45 secs to get to start up screen. Nothing is loaded, new xp install, this is the reason I upgraded. only a floppy and CDR installed. Can a faulty floppy or power supply cause this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated, I didn't mention that I kept the same case thats why ?? power supply. Thanks, Dan

could be any of number of things.. What speed is your hard drive? You need at least
a 7200 to run fast.. Also you could have a ton of things starting up. I seriously
doubt its the power supply.. Would cause a ton of crashes.. as long as its 300w or
better you should be fine.

RAM usually won't speed up the boot process, but you might want to read tour mobo info carefully - once the mobo has all the hardware identified, you can usually tell it to stop doing the search/identify and to use what it currently has stored - this can shave a decent amount off the time to boot. Personally, I let mine do all the stuff it wants and just walk away for a few minutes after I turn it on - I don't know or care how fast mine boots - just so long as it runs right once it gets into Windows, I'm happy....

Thanks Guys, I have no software other than XP loaded and it is a new HD and it is 7200,new MB (Intel D865gbf) new ram 4x256 the reason for all this was that the unit was taking so long to start up and I cannot understand why it is still so, as stated the only original parts are the floppy/cdr/case.???

To answer your original question, yes. I believe the power supply can cause the slow boot. I have been dealing with a slow boot for ages, even reinstalled windows with a clean boot. Then the computer stopped working at all. I replaced my 300w off brand for a 350w Antec and I could not believe my eyes. I stood there in awe as my computer that use to take three minutes to boot now booted in 20 seconds!
