Presario 1247 LCD Screen HELP!

Hi, i just finished paying off my Compaq Presario 1247 Laptop, now the laptop screen
WONT TURN ON. It's on, but EXTREMELY DIM! Could somebody PLEASE help me? Is it possible
that a connector on the inside of the laptop has come loose? Should I open it up
and take a look? I really need this to work, it has all of my important documents
and stuff on it. I also want to see if i can do this myself before having to take
it to radioshack and pay $$$ for them to look at it and find out that a cable is
loose.
Thank You

O, also, i used their chat client to ask for some help, and he said to check the
hinges at the bottom of the screen, i did, and they were pretty loose, when i asked
him, the screen did turn on to perfect brightness and all when it was straight up
only, when i finished chatting with him, i moved to monitor to check, it now didnt
even go to the normal brightness. Another thing, yesterday, i noticed that when i
pushed the screen forward and backward, it would get brighter and dimmer in succession.
Does this sound like a loose cord to you? Thank You

Smack me but I believed that a dim screen was an indication of a low-power battery.
Plugging them in to the supplied power adapter usually cures this. I'd have thought
you were already using the power adapter in which case this response is meaningless,
but it's just an idea,...

Ok, now i turned it on, and plugged it into my monitor, when i moved the screen back
a little bit, it turned back on! But it will only stay on if it is straight up. Otherwise,
when i move it again, it turns itself off again.

It could also mean the cable it wearing out. Constant
flexing can cause intermitent problems. If you can find
a replacement cable, and are handy, it is doable.

I had a Compaq laptop. I threw it outta the window, It works better now. Sell it
and buy a new one, cos its all downhill from here. Mine went back 6 times to compaq.
Thats in 2 years. Thats like having it taken away every 4 months.

"OK, i finally cracked the thing open and found where the inverter was (on the right
side of the LCD display). The magnet around the transformer was cracked and broken
off. And the cable was a little scraggly and worn. So i ordered a new inverter off
ebay and hope to be back in order soon"
