Clear Unwanted Entries from Add/Remove Programs -- Step 2

Some of you may have followed the advice given in the previous posts and been left
with orphaned entries in Add/Remove Programs, and haven't been able to delete them.
Here's the second step involved if this is you case.
Open the registry editor by selecting Start->Run.
type 'regedit.exe' (without quotes) into the text box.
Navigate to the key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products
under this key you will see a number of 'long numbered' keys. Look inside each one
for the string value 'ProductName' if it contains the name of the entry you wish
to remove simply delete the 'long numbered' key you found it in.
E.g. You wish to remove the entry for 'Foo v1.1' in Add/Remove programs. You found
the entry for it in:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\0B79C053C7D38EE4AB9A00CB3B5D2472
Simply delete this key, exit the registry editor, and confirm that the entry has
been removed from the list under Add/Remove programs.

After conducting a series of tests, I've determined what causes programs to sometimes
remain in the add/remove programs list after deleting them from the registry.
If you delete the 'Uninstall' key in an effort to remove all your programs at once,
it will leave ghosts behind. You must either delete them one-by-one or follow the
second step I've outlined in my previous post.

James,
Thanks so much for your advice -- it worked like a charm! I was able to remove a
program entry for a copy of Kazaa that had been improperly removed by one of my customers.
You have saved me several hours of searching the net for a utility to get the job
done.
Thanks Again,
Deryl Johnson

Just in case anyone finds this useful information,
I have been going round-and-round with this on XP and .NET-based applications. I
discovered that very important things may also be living here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\

I am having an issue with the installation of a game I purchased recently. I downloaded
and successfully installed and ran the same game, then uninstalled it, and now I'm
trying to install it from an official CD. I get the error "The system administrator
has set policies to prevent this installation." I have used the Windows Installer
Clean-Up Utility or whatever that is, I have looked for the registry, to no avail,
I have stopped ALL policies, tryed installing in Safe Mode, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
is working for me. If someone can help me I would love you forever.
