A friend has a computer he recently purchased which came with xp home edition. He upgraded to xp pro w/sp1. It has 2 hard drives and dvd and cdrw. He ecently installed sp1 and when almost finished installing the screen went blank, not blue. Tried using restore disc which came from vendor and nothing happened. downloaded 6 floppies from microsoft and tried and again nothing happened. Tried hitting F8 and F5 when turning on computer on and again nothing. for some reason will not boot up at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tnx, Tom

Does "recently purchased" mean 1 couple months ago or last year? Was the machine
purchased new? With syptoms like this, any machine under warrantee should be returned
for replacement or repair. (If installing XP Pro didn't break the warrantee). If
the machine is past the warrantee period or was purchased, I would suggest a trained
technician.

Could be anything from a bad power cord to a dead motherboard. There is no way to
tell from your post, but if it won't try to boot, it is in need of some testing equipment
and, likely, part replacement.

What kind of a computer? If you can not get an initial POST display, then you have
a major hardware problem.

Computer purchased a couple of months ago(Frys) . When my friend bought it it has xphome but he had vendor upgrade it to xp pro. When we try to start it, the cooling fans run and also the blinking lights on dvd and cd run for a few seconds. If you guys need any moe info I'll get it for you.

If that's all that has happened since the vendor upgraded, then take it back to the
vendor to repair............

The onus is on him/her............
