Some Tray Icons Usually Missing

I prefer to see in the tray what is running. When Windows XP loads; however, some
tray icons are always missing. This varies. Some are usually missing, some always
missing, although selected for their various programs. Example: The little speaker
never shows up, although it is selected. If I open "sounds," and cycle it ("Un-X"
it, "X" it, "Apply" and OK) it then shows up. The power plug icon from Power Saving
is likewise. Others show up some times, some times not, e.g., the ATI video control
center icon.

Have you chosen to hide inactive icons in the taskbar? Right click on an empty piece
pf the taskbar, select properties, uncheck the box that says: "hide inactive icons".

No, it is not set to hide inactive icons, nor to group like icons. What makes the
situation so mysterious, is that the missing icons vary from bootup to bootup!

Place a shortcut to systray (C:\Windows\system32\systray.exe) in the common startup
folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup).
Restart the computer.
The problem is Solved.
