When I receive an e-mail into outlook Express which contain links to web site inside
text message, link does not go to Explorer when I click on link.
Also, and I dont know if it is related yet, pop-ups dont work. All I get is a window
with nothing in it ..
Thanks

Marc ... you say your link inside an e-mail opened in Outlook Express does not go
to Explorer. Well ... where does it go? Does it go to the site but using a different
browser than Internet Explorer? Does it go nowhere? Tell us what happens. L

Go to control panel, folder options, file types tab
Scroll down to the URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocols, click advanced, click edit
and make sure the following is in the application used to perform action box:
”C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe” -nohome
The same applies for URL:Gopher
DDE should be set to: “%1”,,-1,0,,,,
Application should say: IExplore
DDE application not running should be blank
Topic should be: WWW_OpenURL
Run each line individually.
Start – Run then type
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
If this does not work try System File Checker
Start – Run then type
sfc /scannow (note the space) have your XP CD handy this time as you may
be prompted for it.
Good Luck,

It does not leave Outlook .... it looks like it tries to go to Explorer but it stays
in Outlook. It seems that the problem is into Explorer because when I am into Explorer,
pop-up gives me a window with no content.

This works. the URL definitions in the Folder Options where correct. I think the

Most likely it was regsvr32 Urlmon.dll but
it is good to check the other info as other problems
that may exist are also cured.
glad to help and thanks for responding with the good

First situation when I clicked on a hyperlink in an Outlook email I got a 'search'

no ULR.. after several occurances I get a bright idea to use the "locate Link Browser"

Now when I click on a email hyperlink, I 1) go the the desire page via IE and 2)

Wil the suggestions above apply to this situations or is there a subset of them to

I'm having a similar problem, but your fix gave me different results...
Now when I click on a hyperlink in OE, it opens a browser window (yay!), but instead
of going to the desired URL, it tries to go to "http://h/", which of course does
not exist.
I haven't tried the System File Checker yet, but I'm guessing I typed something wrong
in one of the "File Types" fields (though I've double checked and can't see any mistakes).
Suggestions?
Thanks,

I'm using Outlook XP, and when I switched from IE to Mozilla Firefox, I started seeing
the "locate link browser" message too (after the URL had already opened). Here's
the answer that worked for me:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q262496
Hope that helps!

Just my luck. I tried all the above. Ran all the files one at a time, they all
came back good. Then ran the program to see if all my original files were still
in place and the system did not alert me to any missing files. I have the same symptoms
as everyone else. I am using Win XP Pro, MS Outlook 2002, and Internet Explorer
6.0.2900. I still can't open a web site from within the body of an Outlook message
without getting that blank window, and underneath it a file search box with 'looking
for "locate link browser"' Any other suggestions?

I have been having similar problems when clicking on links within body of an e mail
in Microsoft Outlook I either get a box which states "locate link browser" or IE
opens with black page ("http:///" in the address box).
I have tried the instructions given by MJB in Jan 2004 in this thread which helped
for a while. For some reason it stopped working and doing the same thing within Folder
Options hasnt rectified it.
Can anyone give any further advice??
BTW am using Win XP with Outlook 2002 and IE Version 6.

Found @ http://www.slipstick.com/mail1/blocked.htm
When you receive an HTML message, links in it may not work or the File, Open dialog
will open, asking to associate an executable file with the link.
Looking at the source, you'll see the URL is prefixed with BLOCKED::, like this:
Office
Online
This is a security feature in Outlook 2003 and happens when URLs are copied from
one email message and pasted into another message. It's added by the sender's copy
of Outlook; the recipient can't adjust settings to remove it.
The sender can control it by adjusting the blocked external context setting in Outlook
2003. You'll find these settings on the Tools, Options, Security, Change Automatic
Download Settings menu or click on the Infobar of a message containing blocked content
and choose Change Automatic Download Settings.

GREAT TIP, MJB!!!
I had the same problem (W2k, Outlook) and followed your instructions - it worked
great!
These problems developed aft installing SP4 for W2k
as well as SP1 for IE6.
The settings in the folder options were correct, what I think fixed it were the recommended
lines:
"Run each line individually.
Start – Run then type
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll"
Thanks again!

MJB you are awesome! Two of the 8 people in my office were having to copy and paste
links from Outlook and your instructions worked GREAT! Once I changed the URL items
it worked, I didn't even need to do the rest of the instructions.
James and Kyle Knapp-I had the same problem as you when I worked on the 2nd person's

DDE should be set to: “%1”,,-1,0,,,,
It worked fine. Make sure you type that field exactly as it is stated there.

You know, little things like this can really make a difference.
If you add up the time it took to search through the source code of the email for
the url of the hyperlink that you want to view, I'm sure that you've literally saved
me WEEKS of hassle.
For the record, I think this whole thing started when I switched to Firefox from
IE, decided that I didn't like it and uninstalled firefox. Apparently, Firefox didn't
take it's associations with it when it uninstalled.
Thanks again,
B

It seems like this problem is getting more popular. I had a problem with Win2k, began
3 days ago. 1st, IE6 would not work. I eventually fixed that by running sfc and restoring
god knows what.
After IE6 seemed to be fixed, Outlook express would not even open. I like to use
it because it works better than Outlook for newsgroups. So I find out to reinstall
it I have to reinstall IE6 again. (whatever happened to the Win98 IE5.5 method "Repair
IE?" ?).
Trouble was, IE6 would never einstall Outlook, cause the files were already there.
Even uninstalling with "Set Program Access and Defaults" only removed the Icons and
start panel links, not the files. Trying to delete the files myself I noticed they
magically reappeared after a few seconds! That was the W2k system file security restoring
from the dll cache. Finding out how to Shut that off was a !#@#%. Turned out, all
I had to do was boot in safe mode and delete and then install ie6 agai, and Outlook
again (btw, Outlook still thinks it's version 6 without service pack one now, but
it should be sp1).
Then SQL Server 2000 service pack 4 stopped working, and gave errors on bootup. Running
SFC caused all these problems, I think. Took all day yesterday to get SQL Server
reinstalled. Finally everything was basically working again, and I have been reinstalling
all the service packs and security patches. Now I got the "no action when I click
a URL in Outlook Express" problem. But it is 1:30am here and I am tired, so will
try some more of the fixes I see you people been using. TY for this site and this
thread!

None of the above worked for me. I read several other places and tried half a dozen
fixes that didn't fix anything. Here is what worked for me.
In the "Locate Link Browser" box, go to C Disk/programs/Mozilla/Firefox.exe. Select
the application and click "OK."
Problem solved VERY SIMPLY. This is the first time in a couple of months that hyperlinks
have worked. Thank God I didn't have to do a reinstall.

Hi
I have been seeing the same problem and following the directions I discovered a very
simple fix.
When I arrived at
Go to control panel, folder options, file types tab
Scroll down to the URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocols, click advanced, click edit
and make sure the following is in the application used to perform action box:
”C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe” -nohome
Instead of iexplore.exe it had ybrowser.exe
I uninstalled ybrowser at the same time my problem started.
Followed all the instructions and it still did not work, so I thought I would try
something else. It’s a work PC so I cannot go reinstalling operating systems and
stuff.
I clicked on Start, set program access and defaults, Custom,
Choose a default Web browser,
select Internet Explorer
Choose a default e-mail program:
select Outlook Express
Click OK
That simple
This worked for me first time hope it works for you too.

Hi, just wanted to gripe a little more because I've tried everything I could find
to make Outlook stop using Firefox to open links (I'm working on software that only
runs in Internet Explorer so I NEED my links to open in IE). I ended up uninstalling
Firefox.
The only thing I never could try was the "set program access and default" option,
because for some reason that option is not displayed in Start > Programs, nor is
it displayed in the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. I am using Windows XP
Service Pack 2.
It would be helpful if anyone could explain why this is the case, or how to access
that option some other way.

"%1",,0,0,,,,
and needed to be
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
The -1 seems to prevent a second window from opening.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Douglas, I tried all the other stuff but your simple fix was the only one
that worked! It works great now and just had to change my "set programs access and
default"!!!

This did break with me when I loaded in January the latest Windows security patches
on one of my machines (XP SP2 and Office 2003) In the register there is a key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preferences
which on the not-working machine has much more entries then on the working machine.
One of them is the InternetBrowserPath which is set when you link the browser from
the 'Locate Link Browser' popup screen. The other machine does not have this key
and works fine.
Both machines art on the same ptach level for XP and Office, so I'm a bit lost as
to where to look now.
All File registration types on both machines are the same so that is not the issue
here.
Any ideas?

I was having trouble with web links from Outlook 2003 not opening in IE7 after a
computer replacement.
My corporate helpdesk said IE7 is not supported and they rolled me back to IE6 as
the fix. I much prefer IE7 so I tried this fix and it was perfect.
Many thanks,
Rex

I too have a problem with my links...when I am in Outlook Express (through IE?) and
try to click on a link from any of my emails...its opens "My Documents". Any link
I click on takes me to "My Documents". Any suggestions as to how I fix this?

On this same idea of not connecting to links in e-mails: I tried all previous fixes.
When I run the line 'regsvr32 Mshtml.dll' I get a message of "Mshtml was loaded but
the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered."
I ran the system file checker with my XP CD and still did not fix the problem. Weird
thing is my husbands e-mail works fine. Mine will not connect to links. Does nothing
if you click on one. I am running outlook express 6. HELP!!!!
