Question about 'How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall'

I have a question about How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall:

I have a desktop running XP Home Edition and a laptop running XP Pro. I can ping either PC from the other but can't get them to see each other in the "Search for Computers" window. The IPs are sequenbtial, and workgroup is the same, and all instructions in this article have been tried on both PCs without luck. I am trying to set up a connection to sync Files and Outlook Express so that both PCs will have the latest version of all documents and I can use OE on each PC and be able to access the OE folders on both as well. I've put "My Briefcase" on the desktop to sync the files, but I can't get the PCs seeing each other. Any ideas?
