Question about 'Setting up Dial-Up Networking'

I have a question about Setting up Dial-Up Networking:

setting up my computer so that I hear the internal modem dial. Have XP with internal PNP modem. Have checked PROPERTIES, and made sure the needle is to the highest; but still cannot hear it clearly ... just barely. Thanks doon

Probably a poor "speaker" on your modem...not uncommon.

Type atl3 into the initialization string field in modem properties. If the volume doesn't increase it is the speaker. If it is too loud try atl2

Wrote it on my calendar ;) Right next to the xmodem commands and all those BBS phone numbers.

Tried adding that command to the "Extra initialization" command box. Made no effect.
