CD -R writing compatibility b/t InCD (Nero) and DirectCD (Roxio)

I use a W98 machine with Nero InCD 3.39 (it came bundled with a cd -r) and an XPP
machine which came with directCD 5.3.4. They read each other's disks fine but show
them as read only and/or full. Any way around this, or is one only able to write
with SW related to the formatting SW, so to speak?

There is no compatibility, DirectCD is not even compatible within versions of itself.

Some stories are short and, because to the point, sweet. Thanks, Ricer46.

I only use CDRW's like regular CDR 's anymore. Packet writing with the time spent
formating is really no advantage. Plus I find better results having them read
on other PC's. Wait till this new packet writing comes out that is built into the
CD-Rw Rom, called Mt Rainer.
You probably won't be able to read anyone else CDR's
until they get it figured out. Can't wait.

Probably the InCD disks were formatted with Mt. Rainer format as InCD supports it
and I think defaults to it. directCD may not be able to write to it.
Thanks, sTeve.
This from InCD pdf:
1.2.2 Available packet-writing software
InCD is not compatible with other packet-writing software - so any other
application of this type present must be removed before InCD can be installed.
Prior to installation, InCD will check which applications have already been
installed, and close the setup process if a different packet-writing software
package is found. If this happens, a window will appear to draw your attention to
the fact.
1.2.3 CD-MRW (Mount Rainier)
It is only possible to format media in the Mount Rainier format when using
recorders that support the format.
In order to format media in the so-called CD-MRW (Mount Rainier) format, the
corresponding check box must first be selected when formatting with InCD. This
turns a CD-RW medium into a CD-MRW one. Drives without CD-MRW support
can only use these media with the aid of a 'remapper’ (see also the following
Section 'Remappers'). The check box is located on the 'InCD Page Settings'
card and is only visible if the recorder supports this function. It is described
in
detail in the 'CD-MRW' section.
You can also find out more about Mount Rainier at http://www.mt-rainier.org.

I was curious about "Mt Rainer" technology when I first heard of it and found that
Web site a while back. Like any new standards it will take time to sort out, and
I
am sure create a lot of headaches for people sharing
CDRW media between computers. You get to lead this
learning curve and share all you learn with us. In time
all the new puter will have "MT Rainer" drives built in. Thankyou for the added information.
