Memory Problem

I have a question about Dealing with Bad Memory (RAM):

I have two 512 MB ddr memory modules, and both work by themselves, but not together. Every time I start my computer, it crashes and restarts before my login screen loads. If anyone has an answer to this brain buster, send a reply please. Thanks.

Sounds like they are 2 different types of memory, even though they are the same size and type but maybe not the same brand or not the same type after all.
