Question about 'Stop Windows XP from asking if you want to send a report to Microsoft whenever a program crashes'

I have a question about Stop Windows XP from asking if you want to send a report to Microsoft whenever a program crashes:

I have “Send Error Report” shut off in Windows XP, but apparently Outlook 2003 could care less and operates by it’s own set of rules. Each and every time I shut down Outlook 2003, the program insists on sending an error report to Microsoft. I don’t mind saying, after literally hundreds of such responses, it’s really getting on my nerves already. How do I shut this blasted “Send Error Report” thing off in Outlook 2003 ?

Sounds more like a bot or virus problem to me...Is Outlook functional??..or is it, in fact, creating faults?

Yes, Outlook 2003 appears to be fully functional as far as I can tell. (In fact I love this new version of Outlook, except for this annoying "send error report thing !) And I have all the latest security patches applied; I have the latest Norton Antivirus and all it's updates on guard; I've scanned my hard disk multiple times looking for virus activity; I've removed all the Spyware AdAware can find; Yet this "Send Error Report" aggrivation persists. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "bot" ?? Thanks for responding by the way. Joe

Take a good hard look in outlook's settings
There is probably an option to disable it somewhere

Thanks Adam, unfortunately, I've also tried that approach to no avail. I've gone through menus, sub-menus, sub-sub-menus, etc. and still can not find anything inside of Outlook 2003 that even "suggests" it controls that obnoxious "Send Error Report" . Thanks for your suggestion though. I appreciate it. Joe

I was just guessing I don't have 2003 installed so I couldn't check but people often forget to check the obvious
Try this regedit Control Error Reporting with Office XP if you feel comfortable with it
In the registry path replace 10. with 11.0
See if those keys exist if so try modifying the accordingly
If they don't exist the 2003 controls that function elsewhere so creating them yourself would not help

I couldn't find any reference to disabling it in 2003 (but plenty on doing it in office XP)
If that doesn't do it see if you can find it in this google search
The only other thing I can think of is to double check and see if error reporting is still disable in XP's options
If office is a new addition to the computer Installing it may reactivate error reporting
Good luck, Adam Bradley

I think maybe you're making this far more complicated than it needs to be:

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System.

On the Advanced tab, click Error Reporting. Uncheck error reporting. That's it.

You could also disable Send error reporting in serivices. Go to strart -->Run-->type services.msc -->Once this opens double click on the error reporting and disable it there. Worth a try.

Thank you for responding. But like I noted in my original question; I HAVE unchecked the send error report box inside of Control Panel --> System. And in spite of doing that, Outlook 2003 ignores it and demands it be allowed to send an error report any how.

Tim, you may be onto something here. I did as you said and went into "services.msc" and set "Startup Type" to "disabled". So far, after 3 loads / unloads of Outlook 2003 it still hasn't bugged me to send an error report. Man, I owe ya one ! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Joe

My fixes may not have been the fix but still
I wish everyone had the courtesy to say thanks to the people that gave them the fix
It also helps the next person that asks the same thing because then we know what works
Best regards, Adam Bradley
