Win XP Pro format issues

I am trying to install Win XP Pro on a used 20 GB HD which previously had W2K on it. I booted to the XP CD, deleted the existing partition, repartitioned the space, and attempted to format. This is where I get one of two error messages - either "Setup cannot access the XP setup CD" or Setup cannot format the HD due to something corrupt (or something like that). Doesn't matter if I try to format NFTS or FAT32. However, I can format FAT32 using my Win 98 boot disk, but when I go back to install XP, I get the second error message. I've tried using the XP Pro Floppy setup (downloaded from microsoft), I've tried using a different XP CD, I've tried a different HD (also used, was a previous XP install). Both of these HD were working fine before I deleted the partition, so what gives? I'm not getting why this isn't working and would love some help.... Thanks! Nicole

Did you do an FDISK before the format? If not, you should.

I deleted the partition from XP setup, but when that gave me a hard time, I did FDISK with a Win98 boot disk. Didn't work either way. What did work was installing Win 98, then installing XP over it. During setup XP "deleted" the other O/S, and seems to be running fine now... Doing it this way was definately not my preferance, and I'd love to hear any other suggestions... Thanks! Nicole
