Question about 'Disable the automatic display of thumbnails in certain folders'

I want to undo folder pictures, so there is no picture - a plain folder like it
used to be. It seems that once a picture is chosen there is no way to undo to no
picture.

While in explorer, click "View" then "Icons" or whatever view you would like.

Thank You, but that does NOT work. If you hit return default it displays 4 pics
from that folder, it does not return the folder to non pic. Icon also does not apply
since that will only switch it to non thumbnail. Again, there is no solution that
will remove all the pics from thumbnail folders.

Ok, i found two articles that seem to attempt handling the above. here they are,
they might or might not be useful:
[lnk]http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article03-203[/lnk]
[lnk]http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=812003[/lnk]
...and now here's what i did that seems to work:
1. open the folder whose picture you want to change.
2. put all of the image files within that folder into another folder (sub-categorize
it).
3. now, go back to the original folder and right-click properties>customize>what
type of folder? select documents. you can leave the box unchecked.
4. select choose picture and select any random picture. hit ok. you should now
see THAT picture appear on your folder.
5. now to make it appear as your regular icon in thumbnail view go back and select
restore default. you should now see the picture split into four folder pictures.
HOWEVER, when you hit OK you will see your folder icon magically appear as the picture!

I have a similar problem as the original poster.
I use images and "folder pictures" a lot to help me identify my folders.
I recently bought a new computer and had Windows XP reloaded. I began getting rogue
images showing up as a folder preview. These images were often ones I had set other
folders to display. But they would randomly show up as previews for different folders
(that didn't even contain those images.) In some cases, the folders were on separate
harddrives on my computer.
I can usually use the tricks outlined above (using the folder properties window or
making a new folder) but I have one folder that is really stuck. It is showing a
subfolder image (an image inside a folder) in a quarter of the folder icon. The subfolder
that it is showing is not in that folder nor has it ever been. If I remove all subfolders
the folder defaults to blank as it should. I have identified one particular subfolder
that triggers this rogue image to appear. When I created a new subfolder with the
same name (this is a web site so I must keep my folders' names intact), the rogue
image reappeared (the new subfolder was empty) so it seems to be the name that triggers
the rogue image and not the folder or the contents.
Any suggestions besides reloading Windows? I have a son who can tinker with my computer
but he's not sure what Windows file might be giving us a problem.

Hi All,
Finally a solution! I've had this problem with XP and now with VISTA. Wasn't sure
if it was a virus or a windows bug. I followed the instructions at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813711/
and increased the numbre of profiles remembered by windows and it work.
Cheers
