Question about 'Various Keyboard Shortcuts'

I have a question about Various Keyboard Shortcuts:

Is CTRL+ALT+D a reserved shortcut? It is a required shortcut in an application, but it doesn't work. Trying to set it as a keyboard shortcut to run an application/open a file in either XP or 2000 won't work either, it simply reverts to 'none'. (Likewise I & L) The problem shows up in different makes of PIV desktops (but not PIIIs or laptops?!) with both vendor preload and original Microsoft installs. A fresh install of 2000 SP1 does work, so maybe it's the service packs?

A colleague has found the cure to the problem, by chance! Intel Graphics Controller chipsets (as used in most current desktops) have a 'Hot Keys' feature which uses Ctrl+Alt+D, I, L, F1 & F2. To disable the feature, right click on the Windows desktop, select Graphics Properties | Hot Keys | Disable. There doesn't seem to be any settings for these keys in the Advanced Display Settings of the machines I checked and on Intel's site I only found a support note about the Hot Keys affecting Word shortcuts, so I don't know yet what they are supposed to do. At least the app is working now.

I've had a similar problem. I used the shortcut key sequence to a program on my start menu. Then I decided to put the program somewhere else in my start menu and delete the first one. I found I could no longer use the same shortcut key sequence. All microsoft says is that if you use a custom shortcut sequence you can't use it for another program. It doesn't say how to delete an old one, where they are stored (in the registry) or anything. I'd just like to remove referrences to the old shortcut on my system and use the same one again in the new start menu location. It reverts to NONE just like in the message above. I can't find where the darn things are stored.

Same here. I want to use Alt-Shift-P for Preview in wikimedia pages, but it goes to Windows Media Player via some shortcut that *no longer exists*. If anyone finds a solution to this PITA I'd love to know.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192804

Desktop Shortcut Key Cannot Be Reassigned if Shortcut Is Deleted

"If you have already deleted the desktop shortcut that was assigned the key combination you want to reuse, restart your computer. You can now reassign the key combination to another desktop shortcut."

If you have Windows XP, then my following post might not work. In that case, I did this and it worked fine...

1. Download TweakUI v1.33 (the old version) from annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui and follow the instructions given there to install it.
2. Go to Control Panel -> Tweak UI -> Repair
3. Select "Repair hotkeys" from the menu, then use the "Repair Now" button.
4. Reboot.

This fixed it for me!
