Well I do have winrar, but.......not more than a week ago my .CAB files were opening
with a specific program, these are .CAB files for Office 0*. But for some reason,
Outlook won't send or receive mail. So I was assuming that the reason why mail won't
"send-recieve" is because these .CAB files cannot be opened! Would that have nothing
to do with my Outlook problem. I thought .CAB files had a certain program in XP.
If it helps any....the Icon that "was" part of the program for these .CAB files,
was a blue filing cabinet. I'm stumped!?! AAuuugh!

The Outlook scenario is a separate issue entirely JP, and would have nothing to do
with the fact that you cannot open .CAB files, or not, as the case maybe.
However, are these files corrupt? What is the specific program? what is Office 0*.
Do you mean Office 2* or EXAMPLE 00234.CAB? Are there any error messages? Did Winrar
work? How about Winzip?
Officially, .CAB files are Microsoft installation archives.
Try this: -
On Windows XP: Start | Run | type in msconfig.exe and click OK. On the general tab
click the Expand File tab. Fill in the necessary data. If your CAB file extension
association has been disabled, see the Associated Links for a possible fix.
Or: -
Not compatible with Microsoft .CAB files. The files are usually called DATA1.CAB
or DISK1.CAB. There are utilities available to decompress them and extract their
contents (I5COMP and I6COMP [search on these terms to find copies]).
As per: - http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=cab

I think that WinXP uses the same files for ZIP files ad CAB files... similar format.
You might try repairing your ZIP file support. Search this forum for something along
those lines... The Wereotter

Uh-oh, I may have a bigger prob. than that!! I can't run "msconfig.exe" from Start>Run,
an error message pops up saying: "windows cannot find 'msconfig.exe' make sure you
typed the name in correctly......" Which I tried serveral times.Oh yeah and sorry,
I meant Office 03 .CAB files. all if them have an "unkown file type" icon. But
what do you make of this "msconfig" prob.??
Thank you all in advance for you replies.

I'm on it!! Don't know how long it takes, but I will reply immed. following the
process, on a different note, while I'm doing that. Is it safe to delete everything
in my "temp" folder, not "temporary internet files", but just the "temp" folder in
Local settings.
Thnx again.

It seems that if you have a problem with .cab files, and it says during installation,
crc error og cab file is corrupt. Then try installing over network if possible. Copy
the file to a network computer and try run the installation file again.
in other case.
1: try download the installation from another place
2: do a HD scan for bad sectors or clusters - seems a lot of HD today a messed up
and destroyed cause virus or spyware progz.

Re: 'Installation error 1335 data1.cab is corrupt'
Sunday, October 9, 2005 at 5:54 pm Posted by jlasdf
(1 messages posted)
Summary:
Network anti-virus scanning tools sometimes interfere a user's download of an installation
program. When the installation program is run (i.e., setup.exe), the commonplace
"Installshield" mechanism cannot validate its own integrity - hence it exits with
the cryptic "1335 data1.cab is corrupt" or something along those lines.
Detail: This can be caused by a combination of network proxy servers (frequently
found on 'sophisticated' corporate networks & 'sophisticated' public wi-fi spots)
that can redirect content to an antivirus or content scanning tool for further inspection
of viruses or malware. Vendors such as Bluecoat, Web Washer or Symantec and Microsoft
ISA among others market proxy servers/content filters as one or more solutions.
Each one of these tools may have an ICAP-compliant component which may change your
download.
Remedy: Use an MD-5 hash to verify the download installer's integrity. Alternatively,
make sure that if your download program is digitally signed that the 'Digital Signatures'
reports "the certificate is OK" in the advanced details button. Otherwise, contact
your helpdesk or someone who can make an exception or allowance for your download.

Hi everyone with this problem,
I've been in this problem for two months now and tried every possible
solution I could find but in no prevail.
Here's my solution: I had a 256Mb and 128Mb memorystick in my PC till I
swapped the 256Mb for a 512MB stick from PCWrld.
Since that change I have had cab installation problems and I've swapped
the 512Mb stick with the 256Mb stick and VOILA! it works!
Suggestion: try taking out any memorystick from your slots and leave at
least one 128Mb in, and see if it works with your cab file installations.
If this wouldn't work try swapping another memorystick.
I didn't only have problems with like OFFICE1.cab and DATA1.cab but also
from cab-files from adobe photoshop CS2 and Coreldraw Graphics Suite X3
and many others.
Hopefully this works for you, and good luck!
Cheers, Marcus

I had the same problem. I installed one program to work on .cab files but when I
uninstalled this program then my .cab files show default icon and none of the files
were opening. Highlight the registry key information and paste in text file and save
it as fixcab.reg. Make sure "Save as type " is showing All files. Double click on
the fixcab.reg and select 'yes' to import into registry. Then restart your PC. I
tested on Windows XP with SP2 and it worked just fine. When you hightlight it then
make sure you start it from "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 " and ends where
it says "00,00,00,31,00,33,00,b4,fa,75,b6,75,78,c7,01"

I had this problem after uninstalling a freeware file compress program, but found
an easy solution here:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm follow the easy instructions and don't
forget to reboot before trying to open the CAB!

"Error 1335 data1.cab is corrupt" I FIXED IT!!!!!!
Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 2:22 pm Posted by Carolina Giraud

Good evening!
Well, first of all I hope u guys understand me, 'cause I don't have a very good English.
This Error 1335. beggining to appear right after I bought a new RAM memory for my
computer. I already had a 256mb, and then I bought the 512mb. Suddenly my computer
started to show some problems and errors that I've never seen before and it was driving
me crazy. I searched on the internet for this "error 1335. Data1.cab is corrupt and
cannot be used" and i realised a lot of different informations for how to fix it,
but no one really helped....i was getting so nervous with my computer and all of
sudden i tried to install without the 512mb memory. AND VOILĄ!! The photoshop installed
perfectly!! Than i changed the 256mb memory with the 512mb and tried to install the
Half Life. Guess what?? IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED PERFECLTY TOO!!
My advice is: if you have more than one memory in your computer and the MB in each
one is different, try to install without one of them.
I HOPE IT SOLVES YOUR PROBLEMS!!
Don“t ask me why it works...i think my memories don't work very good together...
Sorry for the englishes mistakes,
Carolina
