Question about 'Stop Windows XP from creating the My Pictures folder'

I have a question about Stop
Windows XP from creating the My Pictures folder:
Disabling the My Pictures folder is all well and good, but what about those of us
who never, ever use the My Documents folder? I've always had a directory on the hard
drive under my own name with a heirarchical structure for photos, documents, web
pages, and the like. I've used this system since before Windows 95, and since it
continues to work for me, I have no intention of changing. Which essentially means
that the entire My Documents folder is useless to me. But, suprise surpise, Windows
XP won't allow me to get rid of it.

FJ Bradley, et.al., is a great source of justification of M$ taking over our freedom
to manage our own equipment. They are as helpful as a Kleenex for pneumonia. Therefore
many of us have resource consuming directories that are worthless.

You do have the freedom to pick another operating system. A lot of programs use the
My Docs folder
as a default location. If My Docs was removed a lot people would be asking why all
the system errors.
A good search of google will probably turn up some
one who has a way to remove the folder, but I bet
it would create more problems then it is worth.

I have paid enough over the years to allow me to beef when M$ tells me how to set
up my computer. I want the capability of managing my own storage areas and that is
ALL that 'My documents, etc" is. I can hide them but they still take up space. At
one time my docs was a convenience, now it's an annoyance to a lot of people.
I don't care if anyone (or for that matter, everyone else) wants to let BG manage
your computer. I want him to stick to programs, I'll take care of my own system &
storage management.

If you right-click on the My documents folder, and select properties, select the
target tab, you can choose any location you want for the my documents folder (doesn't
have to be called my documents, either; mine is d:\data). You can rename the shortcut
from My documents to whatever you want (data for me).

An annoyance which is not directly Microsoft's fault is that too few programs allow
you to set their default file location. Yes, I can relocate My Documents and naturally
I can split up my files below that, e.g. putting pictures into My Pictures, etc.
but I'd really like more separation for some things. I generally don't consider a
database to be a 'document' for example. But Microsoft only made using My Documents
easy-they didn't make it a requirement so they aren't directly responsible for this
annoyance.
By the way, IMO the default location of My Documents is more of a PITA than the name.
I really dislike the way the name changes according to who's logged on.

Same for me. I hate that folder. It is useless anyway for me. I always saves my data
on a second partition.
As you know if your c: crashes then you lose everthing.
Most computer now comes with 2 partitions except for the clones one. A backup partition
is better then the C: partition or drive.

The arrival of the My Documents folder way back when at least stopped a lot of the
questions on BBS/Forums like "Where has such&such saved my document to - I can't
find it". Like a lot of things, Windows has had to be the system for the lowest
common denominatior. Even so, some of the questions that arise do beggar belief
....LOL.
