Graphics problems with dos games

I have a question about My extra-cool DOS game won't run under Windows:

I am trying to play the game 'Normality' (a.k.a. 'Escape from Normality') in windows XP. I can run the game using compatibility mode. However, if i try to look at anything e.g. the map, the menu, inside a box, etc., I just end up looking at a load of jumbled mess on my screen. I can't do anything on it, except go back to the main screen. Any ideas aould be greatly appreciated, as I have been trying to get hold of and play this game for ages.

First off, try the start disk. If you're going to be using it a lot, try the section on making a start menu (sry, don't remember where it is off the top of my head) If this doesn't work, there are about 1 million ways to edit the way your computer starts from a start up disk. Edit the config.sys and autoexec.bat files to get the support of things needed for the game, and remove those you don't need. there are many ways to customize those two files, you'll have to search for a full list of the possible commands and what they do. After some twiddling, I've gotten most DOS games to load by editing my start up disks. If you really want to, you can edit the config.sys and other files on your computer, then use a menu. That way, no disk is required... but save the original files!
