I ran Stinger and learned I have the W32\Pate.dam virus. Stinger replied that the file named below could not be fixed. I run XP. I turned off system restore and rebooted in safe mode an re-ran Stinger. Got the same cannot be fixed message. The file is: C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-56604596-33222784812-1006\Dc730.exe Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Have you tried an online scan?
An online scanner is available at:
    Trend Micro or
    Panda or
    McAfee or
    Symantec

I ran a search on www.symantec.com for a Pate virus. All i found was there is one called W32/Pate.a [also known as W32.Pinfi not a Pate.dam...... the page is located here http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.pinfi.html
try searching McAffe for some extra info too. McAffe, Pandasoftware, Trend Micro and Symantec are very good resources for virus info.

According to mcAfee..the Stinger will remove any variant of PATE...you might have to help it by finding and deleting files that belong to Pate....anything in TaskMan???,MSConfig???...work in Safe Mode...dump your Prefetch..turn off Sys Restore..Indexing etc...

Interesting because I'm given to understand that the July 2003 MCAFEE Avert's Virex 7.0 definition update (if not before) addressed this virus.
See too http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99690.htm
From the location you gave at the end of your 2nd post, it looks like the virus or its remnants lodged in your recycle bin. Can you go into safe mode, and empty your recycle bin, and re-run Stinger (with system restore of course disabled as before)?
