How do I unformat WINDOWS XP NTFS partition?

I accidently ran the system restore disk on my notebook and my XP partition has been partially quickformated. I found utilities to undelete files. However, none unformats the HDD ie restore it to the preformat state with dirs, files etc intact. I can undelete files, but it means reinstalling XP. Is there a utility like Norton's unformat for FAT?

What about System Restore, that didn't work? You should use GoBack, it's saved my
butt several times!

He wasn't referring to "System Restore," he was using the Restore CD set that came
with his computer to reset it to "like-new" condition. Even GoBack wouldn't help
after he formatted his drive. Since it was a Quick format though, presummably some
magic could be performed to rebuild the file tables.
