Parse Error @ Line 352 when I open Add/Remove Programs
Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 12:08 pm Posted by Max Sterling
(4 messages posted)
Hi, I have a rather annoying little problem when I try to open Add/Remove Programs.
I get a little window that says "Parser Message: parse error at line 352". It
doesn't say anything beyond that, nor does it offer any solutions. After doing some
research on what exactly the Parser is (obviously I'm no expert, haha), I discovered
that it deals with the semantics of the computer language and has lines of code.
Can anyone offer some solutions on this problem? I would appreciate any help you
can provide.
Thanks for your time,
Max

No guarantee here, but might as well start by trying to run the Windows system file
checker from the Start menu's Run box using this command (note the space between
SFC and the forward slash):
SFC /SCANNOW
Follow any on-screen instructions, and have your WinXP CD nearby.
When the process is done, reboot.

if you are getting that error code either 1 of 2 things is happening:
windows explorer has a corrupt .dll that relates to add/remove programs window
or, you have a virus/trojan
run AV scan
jazz is a state of mind...

Which is the best virus/trojan removal program? Ad-Aware, Hijackthis, or something
else?

Max, no single app will do it all. Get an arsenal for yourself consisting of spybot
S&D, hijackthis, adaware 6.0, CWShredder(merijin.org, same as HJ) Macafee Stinger(free
from macafee). Best free AV programs in my opinion would be Avast(avast.com) or
AVG from
grisoft .com. I also use Process Explorer from :
www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml
good tool to see whats happening in the background
Spywareblaster:
www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Reg Protector:
www.diamondcs.com.au/web/htm/regprot.htm
and Script Defender:
www.analogx.com/contents/download/system/sdefend.htm
jazz is a state of mind...

looking the list over, I don't find any malicious entries off hand, possible the
google tool bar items may contain some spyware, however, on looking deeper into the
files mentioned in the log, i think the problem you are having is related to the
support for east asian language on the box.
try reconfiguring the keyboard for english and try to open add/remove programs.
some bugs usually show up in other language support files.
jazz is a state of mind...
