Question about 'Getting Network Neighborhood to recognize newly attached computers'

I have a question about Getting Network Neighborhood to recognize newly attached computers:

I have an AMD Athlon XP desktop PC running Windows XP Home, a Toshiba Intel Celeron laptop running Windows XP Home, and an HP desktop running Windows XP Professional. I have a cable modem with a 4-port wireless router linking the desktops by wire and laptop wirelessly. Here's the problem: My laptop and my desktop both run Windows XP Home. On my network, they recognize each other, and when I try to locate a printer on my network (connected to my HP desktop), the AMD and laptop are listed, but the HP is not. I can locate files between the AMD and the laptop, but the HP is somewhat out of the loop. However, the HP does have access to the internet, and I can ping it from the other two computers without a problem. I've installed every protocal I can find on all three systems, and I've cycled through all the support questions already asked. Nothing that have been suggested has worked. Finally, I did (Before I got the AMD, which was about a week ago) have the laptop access the printer on my HP previously, but now it will not, and won't even recognize the other computer on my network. I've tried every connection setting I can think, worked wizard too many times, but still the only computers listed are the AMD and laptop. What should I do? This focuses on printing, but in the end it's not even on my network, so it's not just about the printer not being access...I'm tired of having to manually transfer files to print things...Thank you. Robert

The only things that come to mind are that the HP is not in the same workgroup, or
there is a firewall on the HP that's blocking access.

I'm sure you already considered these though.

To be short and sweet, I found the problem. I loaded some anti-virus software that came with my desktop's hardrive. The software (which I also loaded onto my laptop) had an auto-engaged firewall that I had not thought to check. The firewall was blocking both computers from seeing the HP on the network, but because the ports matched (using the same program, same firewall system...) they saw each other just fine. Well, problem solved. Although ya'll were not able to help, I am glad this was here, because I'll probably use this as an option in the future, barring possible problems that may appear when I install my dvd-burner or whatnot. Thanks! Robert

Thanks for the tip! In my case, it turned out to be Norton Internet Security that was blocking the connection.
