Web pages forcing the Search bar to pop up... ugh

Here is an example of a web page that's forcing the search window to come up on the
left side. How can I stop this?

Probably malware,.....do the following.... Download, install, UPDATE, and
run:
Ad-Aware 6.0
Spybot Search & Destroy CWShredder
(use
these to help against future infections)
SpywareGuard
Spyware Blaster
(Make sure to use the update feature of these programs often.)
It is important to run ALL of these programs, as each does something different.
I should also mention that before running the tools, do the following:
*Delete Temp Internet Files, Cookies and clear History. (control panel>internet
options>general tab) *Disable System Restore.
How to disable System Restore. When finished,
Turn system Restore back on if you wish.
The reason you need to disable 'System Restore' is that many of these pests like
to
hide within the restore files. These are protected by Windows, therefore the scans
can’t delete the pests.

Advertising technique. Maybe a popup blocker...? Best way around it permanently,
though:
 ------- Get Firefox -------

Just to elaborate, the search window it is opening is
the same thing as what we get when with typing ctrl-E,
but their own version. I use IE6, AdShield pop-up and
ad blocker, and frequently scan with Ad-Aware. Ad-
Aware never finds anything other than cookies
because I'm extremely carefull of what I install. I'm
confident that this is not malware. It's just IE6 giving
more control to webmasters than I want them to
have, and I'm trying to stop it. Maybe I will try Firefox
as suggested by that other guy. Their slogan "Take
back the web" seems right on target.
I notice some other web pages pulling off some
annoying crap, such as some web pages going full
screen without asking me, and some other ones
having animations show up outside of the window.
Is there a way to disable all that?

Probably, but I don't know of anyone who has written something to do it yet. Hmmm,
maybe I should...? :)

Run the tools that Barry suggested. AdAware does not catch a majority of malware.
It targets adware. Running one tool will not catch everything. Also, do you disable
system restore before scanning with AdAware? Follow ALL of these steps:
Before using ANY of these tools, do the following:
Delete TIF’s and history.
Empty your recycle bin.
Disable system Restore.
The reason you need to disable system restore is that many of these pests like to
hide within the restore files. These are protected by Windows, therefore the scans
can’t delete the pests.
Download, install, UPDATE, and run:
Ad-Aware 6.0
Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3
Close ALL browser windows before using these tools.
These will scan for, detect and remove most variants of spyware/adware/malware.
To prevent spyware/adware/malware from being installed on your computer, download,
install UPDATE and run these:
SpywareGuard
Spyware Blaster
SpywareGuard and Spyware Blaster are not scanners. These run all the time to prevent
scumware from being installed on your computer, much like
an anti-virus program protects from viruses/worms/trojans.
Download UPDATE and run:
CWShredder
Close ALL browser windows before using these tools.
This program searches for and removes many variants of the CoolWebSearch.
It is important to run ALL of these programs, as each do something different.
(Make sure to use the update feature of these programs often.)
When finished,
Turn system Restore back on if you wish.

It isn't malware.
launchSidebar('sidebar.tripod.com', 'fungames');
Opens sidebar.tripod.com in the search assistant
function launchSidebar(sbserver, kw) {
var random_num = Math.round((Math.random()*999999));
document.cookie = "sidebarurl=" + window.location + "; path=/; domain=.tripod.com";
if(GetCookie("sbo") == 1)
{
var adImg=d.createElement('IMG'); adImg.src="/adm/img/common/ot_existingpane.gif?rand="
+ random_num;
return;
}
LOL, you can disable by creating the appropriate cookie.
if(GetCookie("nosidebar") == 1)
{
var adImg=d.createElement('IMG'); adImg.src="/adm/img/common/ot_brokenpane.gif?rand="
+ random_num;
return;
}
// change < 100 to control dialdown
It only opens sometimes...
if((kw != '') && (kw != '(none)') && (Math.random() * 100) < 100)
{
Check for IE browser
if((navigator.userAgent.indexOf("MSIE") != -1) && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("MSN")
== -1) && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("AOL") == -1) && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Mac")
== -1) && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Opera") == -1) && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("NetCaptor")
== -1) && (!window.sidebar))
{
open('http://' + sbserver + '/bin/sidebar.cgi?site=' + window.location
+ "&kwcookie=" + kw, '_search'); <-- The command
var adImg=d.createElement('IMG'); adImg.src="/adm/img/common/ot_opensidepane.gif?rand="
+ random_num;
return;
}
}
var adImg=d.createElement('IMG'); adImg.src="/adm/img/common/ot_nosidepane.gif?rand="
+ random_num;
return;
}

Save this line in a text file:
tripod.com TRUE / FALSE 2147731990 nosidebar 1
Open IE. File menu->Import/Export->Next->Select Import Cookies. Choose that text
file. You'll not be shown that search bar again.

Me neither. You'll see in my original post a way to disable it by setting a cookie.
Or you can just use Firefox... :D

Try disabling your popup-blocker. It uses the same function as is used to open a
new window. It comes up every time on mine, with no popup blocker...

It doesn't happen to me when I use IE6, but then I have Spygot S&D and have the "bad
download blocker" enabled in "immunize" which stops the "Avenue A inc" cookie from
that site (might have something to do with it) I also use the Google toolbar it's
popup blocker most likely stops it. In any case I rarely use IE and prefer Firefox. As
for the other effects you experience (ie. windows resizing etc) Firefox has options
the prevent this..... tools>Options>Web Features>"Advanced" button....here you
can determine what you want to allow scripts to do. -- -- --- FireFox
