Question about 'Turn off Animation (menus, windows, etc.)'

I have a question about Turn
off Animation (menus, windows, etc.):
I would like to turn off the annoying messages that popup from the system tray especially
the ones that are related to the network cable unconnected etc.
Also I would like to leave some of the network icons there but not all of them eg.
I would like to leave the wireless one but remove the others. Is there any easy way
to do this. I tried to do this via Taskbar properties, hide inactive icons, customize
and said to hide the icon always. It works but when I restart the icons are back.

For the annoying messages see this.
Be careful though, as it requires editing the registry. As for the network icon you
go to Control Panel --> Network Connections. Right-click the connection you want,
choose Properties. On the dialog box that opens there's a tick box you can mark or
unmark to make the icon show in the tray.

Thanks for the website. It was useful and I was able to remove the annoying bubbles.
BTW, I have looked into what you suggested for the network properties. The option
is to show or not show the icon when they are connected. However the icons show up
when they are not connected. I currently have a VPN connection setup and so I have
a couple of icons there. Any other ideas?
I am sorry if I should not have posted to this as this is a little different
but I am just continuing the thread. If you want me to move it to another one, I
can do that.
