i have a desktop p4 2.4Ghz with 2 external drives networked together, working great
in a common workgroup, each with indiv ip addresses. i want my laptop (designated
in the same workgroup and it's own ip address), p4 1.5 Ghz to joing the network.
i can see the laptop from the desktop but cannot access it. i can see the workgroup
from the laptop but cannot access it. All wires are connected and checked. Both computers
are running XP prof.

Probably being blocked by firewall, do you have a third party firewall on both pc's
or just xp's inbuilt?
Can you ping both computers?
Please reply.

i use ZoneAlarm and have set up a trusted ip range to cover all the drives and the
ip address of the laptop...but when i checked to make sure ZoneAlarm range was set
on the laptop, i found i had forgotten to set the trusted range. Once i did that,
everything was fine. Thanks for your probbing on what should have been obvious.
