Question about 'Change the icon for Internet Shortcuts'

It appears to me that this change also removes the ability in IE for displaying custom
icons for websites. That is, when you add some sites to your Favorites, they come
with a customized icon in the Favorites list. Can anyone confirm this, and indicate
whether there is a fix?
I recall that deleting your history and cache also affects these customized icons,
in terms of removing them or adding new ones. But it doesn't seem to have an effect
after making these registry changes.

-- Confirmed. -- Fooled around with it a little, but didn't find a fix, so gave
up as not that important to me.
Don't forget that the "favicons" supplied by some websites get deleted when you
empty your temp net files. Of course, if you re-visit the site, its favicon will
be restored, only to be deleted the next time your temp nets are cleaned out. You
can stop this from happening by copying the favicon to another location and assigning
it to the website's shortcut (presuambly on your favorites list). But the reg change
that you inquired about first will override that, so .....

Yes. There is a easy fix without poking around in microsoft places. A little program
called "Favorg" which will save all the favicons and keep them displayed in your
favourites menu permanantly.

Favorg seems like a nifty program, but it appears to not work if the registry edits
in this topic have already been applied. Is that in fact the case?

Your edit does not seem to have helped, and I am not able to suggest anything as I
have had my own probs with the registry in the past. I always use if possible some
program to do the dirty work for me because 99.9% of the time they have been designed
by and tested by someone that specialises in that particular problem, (ie: messing
with the registry) Is there any way you can get back to where you started like having
a registry backup?. Wish I could help
