Adding "Favorites" to Start Button or Taskbar

I have a question about Customize Windows XP Styles:

Windows 98 had "Favorites" on the Start menu which I appreciated. Is there an easy way to add it to Windows XP (2004) Start Button or the Task Bar?

Right-click Start menu->Properties->Start Menu tab->Customize->Advanced->Check "Favorites menu"

I think you should be able to simply drag shortcuts to the start button. It works
for me.
