Win XP Pro SP2 - fastfat.sys stop error

Anyone had a problem upgrading to Win XP Pro SP2 and receiving BSOD Stop Error 23
at start up?
Everything was working fine before, and had been since I got the computer. I then
install SP2 through Windows update and after rebooting I get a BSOD as Windows is
starting up saying its a 0x00000023: FAT_FILE_SYSTEM error with the file fastfat.sys.
Rebooted a dozen times with the same error each time. (I originally thought it might
be defective memory, but from experience it is usually different error messages every
time you reboot and I had no problems prior to SP2)
Now what I find strange is that I have two h/d's both of which are NTFS, not FAT32!
Booting in safe mode works without any problems.
My specs are:
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
Athlon 64 3200+
512 Meg PC3200 RAM
Radeon 9800Pro 256Meg
West Digital 160Gig Serial-ATA H/D NTFS boot drive
West Digital 80Gig Ultra ATA H/D NTFS
LG GSA-4120B 12X Super Multi Internal DVD+/-R/RW Drive
420W P/S
with AMD Cool & Quiet Utility Active and nothing is overclocked.
Anyone have an idea of what the problem could be?
I rolled back to pre-SP2 and everything is working fine again.

SP2 didn't like your system. Don't install SP2 if it does that to you. Wait till
all the bugs are worked out in a couple months.

W2K had problems with fastfat.sys when older programs used a rarely implemented method
to query for file names or volume names.
Are you running one legacy program that might be the culprit?
Other shot-in-the-dark ideas would include ensuring that you are using the latest
BIOS version for your mobo and the latest mass storage controller (chipset) drivers
for both the SATA disk and the IDE disk.

No legacy programs at all.
Some typical ones installed are MS Office 2003 Pro, Macromedia Suite 2004 MX,
Photoshop 7.0,
bunch of games but the oldest one installed is Battlefield 1942.
As for drivers, I had already updated by mobo bios to the latest non-beta and
also the latest SATA drivers. The IDE was just using the Windows XP supplied ones,
but it is a common drive that has been around a couple years, so I doubt it could
be that one. Oh well, I guess I'll just wait along with many others for a few
more months before trying again. If anyone else has had issues with fastfat.sys
& Win XP SP2, please post so I know I'm not alone and to see what if anything we
would have in common. I have to say it is a brilliant security feature
that is as effective as pulling the plug on your PC in order to secure it! /rant

If you have the time, I would suggest contacting Asus tech support about the problem.
IME they seem to be genuinely interested in glitches that need to be fixed.
