Question about 'Change the icon for Internet Shortcuts'

I have a question about Change the icon for Internet Shortcuts:

That is excellent advice. I now know how to change that annoying blue e on a page

... if however you want to take advantage of the favicon that some websites include, but keep losing your favicons (within your favourites or links bar) when you delete your temporary internet files ...here's what you do...

Each webpage that has it's own icon will download it into your Temporary Internet Folder when you add the website to your favourites (the file is called favicon.ico) This is why they disapear when you delete your temp folders. (favicon is deleted too)

Go into your Temporary Internet Folder (C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files You will need to turn on "Hidden/System Files" first, as the "Local Settings" folder is a hidden file. (open My Computer, then click Tools - Folder options - view - tick show all files)

Copy the file called "favicon.ico" (in the Temporary Internet Folder) to somewhere you will remember later on. eg my documents

Now you have a copy of the icon that will not be deleted when you delete your internet files. Bear in mind, each website that you go to downloads a new file called the same name (favicon.ico)

Now heres the sucky bit.... It apears you can only change the icon with Internet Explorer as the default browser, you can not change the icons in your favourites to point to the new icon location in my documents. (If you right click on the icon, then click properties, you do not get the CHANGE ICON option)

To combat this, you must change your browser back to Internet Explorer, and ensure Internet Explorer is your default Browser (Internet Tools - programs - tick the box at the bottom)

To make this work, you now need to change your monitor color setting (this resets your icons) From your desktop, right click then properties - settings - change the color property and ok. You can change it strait back again to your original preferences. (as long as a change was made)

Now when you right click on your link in your favourites then click on properties, you will see a button CHANGE ICON. You can now point the icon to the one you stored earlier.

Once you get all your icon's changed how you would like them, you can set another browser to the default, and your icons will still be there.

Hope you're still with me LOL Lout

(email if you are still confused but read the above first)

Thank you so much for this information. I've saved other desktop favicons as well by simply changing the color settings as you described.

Spielwaren & Mehr - Inh. Bernd Götting - passt bloß auf !

Aside from the wrong language, you have got entirely the wrong forum ! Sorry about your toy kitchen, though - you might try posting your complaint here
