Question about 'Disable the automatic display of thumbnails in certain folders'

I have a question about Disable the automatic display of thumbnails in certain folders:

I know how to stop a folder from showing thumbnails, but how do I get the little Open File window to not display thumbnails? In every program, from Photoshop to notepad, when I go to File / Open.. and the window comes up all the files are always shown as thumbnails. I am constantly right clicking and choosing "View- List". Is there a fix for this? Thanks

try this...

Copy and paste all between below two red lines to notepad

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU\]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags\]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00005000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00005000

File name: DelBags&Rez.reg
Save as type: All Files

Double click on DelBags&Rez.reg to merge it into registry...
This will reset all folders customization as when you start windows at first time and increase the number of folder view settings windows should remember to 20480 (decimal) folders.

Hope this helps

I'm having this same problem, and that doesn't help at all, the "Save/Open As" window still shows My Pictures-folder as thumbnails. I've also disabled thumbnailing in Windows using regedit, and that doesn't help either.

I have just discovered and used Yap's registry tweak, and it has done just what I hoped - hurrah!

Amber, did you try Yap's registry tweak? Did it help? Can you get XP to remember your preference in the Save / Save as dialogs?

Repair install WinXP Clean install WinXP

I did try it, and unfortunately it didn't work for me. I never did find a way to fix that, but I recently reformatted because of other problems and it's no longer an issue.

Yap's registry patch doesn't work for me either. For one thing, it won't delete the
BagMRU and Bags keys if they have subkeys under them, which I have. But even if I
manually delete these keys and their subkeys in Regedit, they still pop back and
I still can't get rid of the auto display of thumbnails.

Is there any effective solution to this problem?

How to enable thumbnail preview?

I'm having trouble viewing the preview picture in thumbnail view in all my folders. I was able to view a small preview of the pictures in the past (when viewed in thumbnail mode). So I could see what the picture is before actually opening it. But now all I see are icons of the program the picture would open with once I click on it. I'm getting annoyed at needing to open every file to see what the picture is. Filmstrip doesn't work either. Any help??

if you'd post in Real Time instead an almost yearold post you'd get some answers.Rarely
anyone is looking at the old posts unless they have the E-Mail Alert for it still
engaged.Just start your own Thread and ask your question.

Hi, there

I was having the same problem, and it was maddening. I finally found the solution on Ramesh's Windows troubleshooting site (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/imagethumb.htm):

Type the following command in the Start, Run dialog:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

This should do it!
