XP2: The ordinal 233 could not be located-SHDOCVW.DLL

After upgrading to XP2 my Norton Antivirus 2004 has been giving me this error:
AXWIN Frame Windows: cfgwiz.eze - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 233 could not be located in the dynamic link library SHDOCVW.DLL
This error message pops up like 5 times and then Norton comes up in a blank window.
I also get this message when accessing certain help files.
I tried searching for help here : http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com/index.php?showtopic=17470&st=15
but the suggestions didn't work.
So far I have ordered a copy of SP2 via CD and installed it based on a recommendation
that the DLL in the downloaded SP2 was corrupted. This didn't make a difference.
So I went into System32\ and System32\dllcache and renamed the Sep 29th, 2004 version
of the DLL and copied the August 04, 2004 file into the directory. This didn't work
either.
Any suggestions?

This sight basically says that nothing should be wrong with Norton Antivirus. Thanks
anyway.

It's been suggested that doing a Symantec Norton Antivirus Live Update installs files
that make the program SP2 compatible. But you probably can't run Live update. So
If I were in your shoes I would chuck Norton out the window and use AVG. Save the
headache.

I wish this were the case, according to live update, everything is up to date except
for the definitions. There's something wrong with the DLL is my opinion.

I've uninstalled and installed this program a few times and then liveupdated as much
as I could until there was no more updates. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to do
anything. I still get the error message. Maybe someone could send me the DLL?

Victor, did you ever find a solution? I have exactly the same problem and none of
the solutions posted worked for me either. the 'ordinal 233 missing' message comes
up just as you describe, in several contexts: When starting Outlook, Norton, or
accessing 'help' in Excel.
With Outlook, the message comes up half a dozen times, I cancel it and eventually
Outlook works just fine.

Sorry Dan, I have not found a way around this. Just so you know I tried the following:
1 Reinstalled SP2 from CD
2. Copied older SHDOCVW.DLL file to a few locations.
I have now heard that removing SP2 and reinstalling from the CD might be the way
to go. Let me know if this works for you.

I had the same problem with 2003 Server.
Fixed it and I present my theory on how and why...
I used a program called "WindowsUpdatesList"
It was free and showed all installed updates with there install date and listed the
files. I found that KB883939 contained the file SHDOCVW.dll in it. It may/may-not
also be present in SP1 for Server 2003, which I consider to be equivilent to SP2
for XP since they came out around the same time.
That update can't be removed through add remove although it dose show up. I right
clicked it and hit properties in the WinUpdatesList program that I downloaded for
free and it told me where to find the uninstall.
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB883939$\spuninst\spuninst.exe
(remember this is server, xp may be different)
I removed it by runing that exe and REBOOTED
Then the server booted to reveal that it was infact already SP1 even though it was
not before the reboot.
I suspect that KB883939 was installed and the server was not rebooted then automatic
updates were enabled and the server was allowed to do it's thing. SP1 (SP2 in case
of XP) was installed over top and rebooted but there may have been a problem finishing
the setup for SP1. It is also possible that it just couldn't finish until KB883939
was removed.
Unfortunutly as you can see there is pleny of room here for experamentation however
MY server is working...
I suspect this is the pure result of not rebooting between / after HotFixes and Service
Packs that call for a Reboot.
Just a theory.

Would you please be so kind as to tell me where you found the WindowsUpdatesList
program? Thanks!

I had the same problem and eliminated it by uninstalling IE 6 and replacing it with
IE 7 (beta) I suspect this file was lost during one of IE's multiple patches.
