i know there is a .exe that has a really cool wallpaper..but its bundled with spyware...i mean..do you really need an exe to download a .jpg? nuh uh! I was wondering..is there is a program that takes apart an .exe so that i can just get what i want? and toss away rest of the junk? (with out even installing the exe or spyware) if so that would be great..so i can use themexp again...to get all the good themes...and take out the spyware bundles...

What I've found out from experience is that most installers are just compressed files.
If I were you, I'd use a tool called WinRAR.
It works with a number of compressed file formats, including ZIP.

All you have to do with .EXE files is right-click on the file, click "Open with WinRAR".
Once it opens, extract the files you want, then junk the rest.

the problem with picking apart exes's is figuring out what language was used to write
it use resorse hacker as said above and look for any text srtings and if your luck
ull pick up the company that made the program that made the exe (they like to gloat
in source code occasionaly) it is not likley to be a simple self exracting exe it
could be writen in a wide variety of programing languages

or you could simply install the background and then remove the spyware

but be warned there are scrips to hide things inside images (jpg's, gif's ect)....
and i cant thing of a use of doing that on a large scale ecept for sinister pourposes...
spyware, vii ect...

a good spyware removal is here: (spybot S&D)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

and the resorce hacker is available here:

Many EXEs with spyware have it embedded in the program. If you are a good hacker you can rewrite the source code and do what you will but it does take some expertise. I am not smart enough to do that but there are some real brains that do nothing but hack programs.
