Question about 'Prevent file corruption problems'

I have a question about Prevent file corruption problems:

I am trying to 'un-corrupt' a usb port drive... and i'm not sure how to get the disk checker to check that one! I am able to open certain folders on my USB but others will not open because of an "I/O" error. What does this mean and how can i correct it; these files are very important to me! ~ashley

Did you use the drive on a Mac? Forget to "eject" before removing it? I hope not, lol.

Sorry I didnt' specify that I use a PC! oops... but i have had no trouble with this before and I have taken it right out of the system maybe once or twice without 'ejecting'... it' sonly today that i'ts been acting up and i've had it for months. I think the files somehow got corrupted and / or the I/O device thing isn't working. You see how much I know about computers.

Nah, I knew you used a PC. Its an XP forum, lol. But normally removable disks are used for data transfer, and that can often involve a Mac. I once toasted a ZIP disk using one.

If you hit a dead end with recovery tools, or just don't want to bother with them, try copying one file at a time. Usually its only a few files that are corrupted, but that can keep you from getting an entire folder when you try to do everything at once.

There are many data recovery programs. I like Easy Recovery Pro v6.0
