Folder tree view & toolbar settings in XP explorer

I have a question about the folder tree view & toolbar settings in XP explorer, similar
to discussions in this
article.
Hi all! I use WinXPsp2 and I have my view settings in the windows explorer set to
be remembered for each individual folder. With the sp2 default settings this should
allow for 5000 individual folder settings to be stored. My question:
Do these 'folder settings' also include which toolbar is enabled/disabled en whether
the folder tree view is enabled/disabled? I can't manage to open an explorer window
without bars/treeview: when I disable them, they are disabled for every explorer
window.
I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance,
Kees

That's what the Help button on Folder Options is for. ;-)

Thanks for your quick reply Falcon, that indeed already answers 50% of my question!
:-) Should I assume this goes for the Folder Tree View (left pane) as well? Kees

It is considered a toolbar.

Ah, ok. Well, that makes it 100%! Thanks a lot, Falcon!
Does this mean there is no way to open an explorer window without the left pane if
I have (or had) this pane enabled in another explorer window? Command line options
maybe?

Which left pane? The folder view, or the common tasks pane?

I don't want a left pane at all (no folder view, no task pane and no search pane).
I would just like to see the files in a particular folder as icons. Then resize the
window so they all fit exactly. Now the re-appearance of the folder tree view (which
I use in most explorer windows) pushes the icons out of sight.

By defualt, folders opened from a shortcut have the Common Tasks pane in the left,
unless you've disabled that, and adding the folder pane is something you do with
command line options.

I have indeed disabled the common tasks pane (I use classic style folders). I do
not add my folder pane with a command line option. I just toggle it on with the toolbar.
However: for certain folders I don't want this folder pane (actually no toolbars
at all). For instance for my control panel or a folder containing a collection of
games/links. In this case I am not interested in the location, I just want large
clickable icons. :-D
When you say I can add the folder pane by command line, does this mean I can
remove this pane as well in a similar way? Should I use the /n switch?
Thanks for your help so far!
Regards, Kees

Yes, the /n switch may do it. Try that, then /e. They are opposites.

I think I just found the solution: the /root switch. This opens a window without
the left pane and even the toolbar settings remain unchanged so I can turn off the
buttons etc! This doesn't interfere with toolbar toggles in other explorer windows.

Thanks, you just beat me. The /n gives the desired result, but doesn't let me specify
a folder. The /e is indeed the opposite, so gives me the left pane. The /root switch
did the trick and makes it even possible to remember the toolbar settings for this
particular folder!

I would appreciate your explaining how I turn off the folder tree on the left....I
do not know what /n switch means. Can you tell me what to do? Sorry I'm not more
computer literate. Thank you for your help.

Here's the command line you were looking for: (I'm using C:\Windows and the target
folder):
Explorer.exe /n,C:\Windows
