Question about 'My Taskbar has disappeared - how do I get it back?'

My Windows XP Taskbar has completely disappeared. It's not minimized, it's not on auto-hide, it's not in either side or top of the screen, it's just plain nowhere to be found. It disappeared for no apparent reason. I have two accounts on my computer. The account I'm using now is the account that has no taskbar anymore for some reason, yet my other account has it's taskbar as it should. Of course Windows Support is no help at all so here I am. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dan

My computer has done the same thing in the last couple of days. No taskbar, minimizing windows takes them off the screen. I can recover them with Task Manager of course. I was hoping there might be some technical knowhow here but the first answers were lame and this last just refers you back to the lame answers. It isn't a hidden taskbar. It's not locked. It's not a problem of screen dimensions. It's just gone. Can somebody who knows something about it help. Oh, yes, the other user doesn't show this problem.

I am using Windows XP, and my taskbar has disappeared completely. I drag the mouse
all over the screen, nothing. I tried Ctrl+Esc and hitting the Windows key, still
nothing. I have to use task manager to open Internet Explorer and other programs,
some I need to access I can't locate, please help!
Best Regards, ~Greg

I have the same problem too. It happens when I come back turn my PC on after hibernating. It didn't happen before but it started to be a problem lately. Instead of a taskbar, I have a 'placeholder' for the taskbar which is transparent, meaning that I can see the background through the original taskbar location. I believe that it is some graphics rendering error or software conflict. A restart of my computer solves this problem though. Based on your problem, you might want to create a new user account and migrate your settings there. That should solve it.

Anyone who also has this problem, I would recommend you don't waste numerous hours (over 20 for me) with tech. support. I tried emachines, microsoft, comcast, and norton -not one person could find a way to bring it back (and the only friendly ones were at emachines). Back up all your information, and re-boot the entire system, it sucks, but it is the ONLY way.

I tried many different technicians, from virus centers to my own computer manufacturer, and not even Microsoft had any good ideas. I finally had to copy everything important onto DVD, and wipe the computer. You might want to save many wasted hours and just do that now...sorry there's no better solution out there...Best of luck! -Greg
