Hi, im trying to network 2 computers with a straight through wire connecting the computers staright from ethernet port to ethernet port without routers or anything. Ive run the wizard and set it to how i want it (sharing a internet connection with a computer that has a internet connection). But when i finish it says that the newtork cable is unplugged when it isnt. what can i do? please help! :( . thanks chris

You'll have to have a "crossover cable" instead of a regular Ethernet Cable.  You 
should be able to get one at your local computer supply store.  If that option is 
not available, you can make your own by crossing certain wirel within the Ethernet 
cable.  I wouldn't recommend this unless you have the ability to properly splice 
these wires.

You would be better off purchasing a router and using regular ethernet cables, especially 
if you want to share a broadband internet connection.  The way your setting up, you 
have to have the primary maching that is connected to your modem on in order for 
the second computer to gain access to the internet.

Hi Chris,

You will need a cross-over patch cable to connect two computers directly without 
any other hardware.  Please note that buying a cheap router would make your life 
that much easier and also give you added security...or at the very least, a hub...
