Question about 'How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall'

I have a question about How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall:

I have 3 computers (A,B,& C) networked thru a Linksys router. Clicking "show network computers'"shows all 3 computers. All 3 computers show all 3 computers just fine. I can use A to access files on both B and C. Clicking on C from B or B from C opens a list of files, which is good. But try to open A from either B or C returns a message that reads:" \\A is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the Administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access denioed. " So it seems that A is blocked, but how do I unblock it? I have no idea where else to look. It's diving me buggy!!! PS, This all started when I installed SP2.

Most likely the firewall on "A" is not allowing incoming connections. SP2 turns Windows Firewall on by default , SP1 the Firewall is turned off.

Did you make sure that you have a matching user account on "A" that you have on "B" and "C".? and that the passwords are the same?

Well, I do not have passwords set up at all on any of the machines. I do have all PC's in the same workgroup tho. Bear in mind that all was well until I updated to SP2.

I am having the same problem and a search on this site has offered no real (or step
by step) solution. I tried "help" in Windows and got this:

1.	Open Network Connections.
Did that
2.	Click Incoming Connections, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings
of this connection.
There is no “Incoming Connections” tab or on any list in Network Connections so I
can not find “Network Tasks” nor “Change settings of this connection” anywhere on
the screen. Therefor none of the following applies either. Do I have the only Windows
XP Pro SP2 that acts like this?
3.	On the General tab, do one or more of the following:
o	Under Incoming connections, in Devices, click the check boxes next to the devices
through which incoming connections can connect.
o	If you want to enable others to make private connections to your computer by tunneling
through the Internet or other network, select the Allow others to make private connections
to my computer by tunneling through the Internet or other network check box.
o	If you want to show icons in the notification area when incoming connections are
connected, select the Show icons in notification area when connected check box.

This is incredibly frustrating and more difficult than necessary. I can not access
computer A from computer B and C or my laptop. But I can access the laptop from computer
A. All settings in "Network Connections" are the same on each computer. I have turned
off the Firewall and still have the problem.

All I have left to say is "HEEEELLLLPPPP!!!"

I had the exact same experience as you - same "might not have permission" message - same unhelpful help message referring to non-existant tabs under "network connections". Managed to access a friend's laptop successfully, through our wireless connection though he couldn't access either of our computers and got the same message. We compared set-ups on all the menus and submenus relating to networks and couldn't find any differences. I have been working on this non stop for a week now. There must be a straightforward solution to this. - We haven't done anything non-standard on either of the computers! ANY help would be appreciated.

While I still have no idea how to fix this problem (I have been experiencing it for months now), I have decyphered the Windows Help tips below, and where the menus are found. Basically, those who are computer-savvy can right click on the connection in question found in Network Connections and click Porperties. This should get you to step three, however I dont believe that any of these tips worked for me anyway.

ok so the main problem here is the permissions like the error message said it had to do with what someone needs to find is a specific permission that allows you to modify and or read files from an oncoming source of course you should make sure this is only local because this would be a huge port for spyware normally all the permissions are in the management window you get there by right clicking on my computer and clicking manage let me know if anyone finds anything
