Question about 'Turn Off the CD-ROM Autorun'

I have a question about Turn
Off the CD-ROM Autorun:
I successfully turned off autoplay for all my drives but Windows still opens a folder
automatically when I insert a CD, showing all files and folders on the CD. How do
I turn that off. I just want Windows to do nothing when I insert a CD.

Right click on the drive - go to the Autoplay Tab and choose an action for the particular
CD type

I already chose "Take no Action" for all my drives and stopped the autoplay function.
But Windows still opens automatically a window showing me all the files and folders
on the disc. This is what I want to disable.

I also have this problem, all options are TAKE NO ACTION, and windows still barfs
up a window when i insert a cd, how stupidly annoying. I think this has to do installing
from a SP2 cd, since my xp that i upgraded with SP2 installed from first XP cd doesn't
have this problem.

This is fixed with PowerToys for XP, TweakUI->My Computer->AutoPlay->Types->Enable
Autoplay for CD and DVD drives (uncheck) and it works, of course it would be nice
to have DVD drives popup the dvd player and regular cds to NOT open the window, but
i'll choose to disable all to prevent the later from happening.

See...
http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/43811/43811.html
..showing another user's recommendation for how to get rid of autoplay.
Also see...
http://www.pcbuyersguide.com/software/system/WinXP-tips.html
Or try disabling autorun features under Windows XP and retain the option to easily
re-enable them again later on, using the "Turn Off Autoplay" function in the Group
Policy Editor, gpedit.msc (in Administrative Templates > System).
My best to all and to all, hap-e-trails,

I have just the opposite problem.
Neither of my cd roms will autoplay, although both are checked to autoplay.
In fact, windows explorer does not update the information when I put a cd in, such
as a music cd. Is there a secret to this that I can't seem to find? Any help would
be appreciated. My computer store tells me I have to reinstall windows, which I
really don't want to do.
Thanks

Tell your guy at the 'puter store to reinstall himself the next time you see him.
Who the hell wants to reinstall Windows for this Microsoft bug that software companies
have exploited to the nth degree, rendering the autorun/autoplay functionality...unfunctional.
Do this:
go into regedit
(I'm assuming most who are reading this are somewhat computer savvy)
Find this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
value for autorun should be 1. If not, change it to 1.
Now, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
hexadecimal value for NoDriveTypeAutoRun should be 91. If it is 0xb5, or doesn't
exist create a new dword value. If a dword value of NoDriveAutoRun exists, rename
it to NoDriveTypeAutoRun with a 91 value.
Restart and all should be good.
If it's not fixed there could be a couple other things that need to be changed.
I'll go into it later if needed, I gotta get a beer now. Out.
