Got the above error blue screen message. I did a chkdsk and mbr. It said that i had a bad hard drive. I installed a new hard drive and now when I power up I get no video, no keyboard lights. Power supply fan works. If I could only get a video I could see what is the problem. I am working on a friends computer. it is a HP. Any suggestions. I thought malybe the cmos battery. help thank you

The CMOS battery does not power the machine. Most common cause for the symptom you
describe is to incorrectly attach the ribbon cable to the drive.

AFAIK the chkdsk and mbr commands do not have the ability to diagnose hard disk drives
and declare their condition.

Utilities written by the hard disk drive manufacturers do, and are easily downloadable
from all of the major name HDD mfr's websites.

I downloaded a software program from Seagate to determine the bad hard drive. I will check the ribbon cables again.

Seagate's utilities are split between two programs:

1. DiscWizard is the installation helper
2. Seatools Desktop is the diagnostic program

DiscWizard can analyze your installation to check for common boo-boos.
