Deleted Partition!!!

I just got a new PC about a month ago. I was using remote assistance on messenger
with a "friend" of mine and he asked to take control of my PC. I proceeded to let
him thinking he wouldnt screw anything up. He deleted him HP recovery drive!!! He
did it so fast I couldnt press escape in time to shut the session off. I dont want
to spend money on fixing this problem or buying another windows xp disc. Windows
XP came with this pc as well as many other programs. I need the drive back and i
will do anything to get it back... as long as it doesnt cost me anything! :(

Thank you to anyone that can help me!!!!

Well, one way would be to dig out a partition table editor and try to recreate the partition table entry referencing it. Really, though, your best way would be to either buy a set of recovery disks or else make a compressed whole-disk image and put it in a safe place (such as multiple DVD sets--I used two sets, verified post-burn). With the latter, however, you capture the computer's state as it is at this moment--which works fine if its new, but really doesn't work if you've got a ton of junk on it.

Wow, that certainly is an interesting way to fix the problem... How does this bring back the recovery partition or provide an alternative? :)

Doesn't really, sure he learned his lesson and didn't need me telling him it was
a stupid move. But the booting of the ass might make him feel better. Maybe I need
anger management ;)

You can also phone HP with proof of purchase handy and request a copy for not much
more then S&H. Never done it myself but this is what I have heard a few times.

Call the manufacturer, find out how much it is going to cost. Call your freind and inform him/her that they owe you that much. Call the manufacturer back when you have the money and order it.
