CD-R and CD-RW

I burnt a CD of my documents in case the computer crashes, first used CD-RW, I couldn't
view it on another computer. It just wouldn't open the files. Then I used CD-R, this
showed everything ok, text, images, except files that were on Microsoft Works spreadsheet
or Word Pad. On these there were lines of little white boxes (I don't know what they're
called) instead of letters. Can anybody tell me what could cause this?
I had to print a couple of important documents.

I have no idea. I forgot to mention that I copy the files on the CD, I don't use
a burner, I had Nero before, but I found it much easier to copy.

The white box type characters generally show that the font with which the document
was created is not present on the computer being used to open it again.
CD write problems can be caused by a multitude of thngs - speed - type of media -
type and speed of drive - hardware problems etc. ....... but if it works on the CD-R
try changing the make and speed of CD-RW (unless you're happy with CD-R now)
