Question about 'Clean up your hard disk'

I have a question about Clean
up your hard disk:
I want to erase (reformat) my hard drive. The only problem is that my Windows XP
Disk is an upgraded version. Microsoft said to me that I need an older version
in order to use it.
Is there a website I can go to and download an older operating system??? If anyone
knows of any, can you please send me a link??? Anything would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

cd ? if you put the cd and then restart you will have the option to start the cd
and then you can install windows and delete the old one.

thank you for responding.
I just need an older version of windows so that when I am done reformatting, I can
install the older version and then put in my Windows XP Upgrade disk.
thank you again for responding

What they mean is that the upgrade CD needs a qualifying OS disk in order to install
XP. So you need something like a 98SE CD or later. You can probably get one relatively
cheaply - but not for download that I know of

M$ has fooled a lot of people with so-called "Full" vs Upgrade Versions starting
with win98.
Any Update version will install if you can prove you had any older win OS. There
are many sites that you can download a winME boot disk. That is all that is needed.
If you have a CD cool.
Have fun BILL
