Joe's List /
Falcon's cleanup
I susp[ect you've picked up a virus.
Start by doing a clean boot:
How to Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP
Next follow Falcon's cleanup routine (link is above the blue line) but do it in Safe
mode.
Repair install WinXP /
Clean install WinXP

What I ended up doing, with advice from a friend is to restore the system to a last
known good state. For me this was from two days before.
Here's what I did:
Using the task manager, which I accessed using the three magic keys, Ctrl+Alt+Del,
I hit File->Run New Task, and typed int he following:
%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
This will give you the restore wizard, the rest is in the wizard instructions. Best
of luck to anyone who finds themselves facing this issue.
