Question about 'Dealing with Windows's Advanced Power Management (APM)'

I have a question about Dealing with Windows's Advanced Power Management (APM):

My power options window does not have an option to enable/disable APM. Does this mean I do not have the APM feature?

Go through the steps and check in the BIOS first - but if nothing is wrong and you have no problems don't worry too much about it .......

I checked the bios, but the only reference to anything power related was "RF Power". I enabled that, but my computer still will not shut down without holding down the button. Also, anytime I switch from AC to battery power, or vice versa, my laptop locks down. I thought this may be related to the APM, but I think also it could be a bad hard disk controller.

Joe's List /
Falcon's cleanup

Is this a fairly new laptop? Is it still under warranty? If so contact the manufacturer and get them to either fix the problems or replace the laptop. Who is the manufacturer by the way?

Repair install WinXP / Clean install WinXP

This is an e-machines laptop that was under warranty until last april. I had problems with it from the start, problems they would not fix. They told me all my issues were software related and everything was my fault for installing any software they hadn't already provided. I gave up on the warranty long before the expiration date and had a local shop do some repairs. They upgraded to Windows XP pro after replacing the hard drive (twice) and I have since had power issues. The local shop thinks my hard disk controller is bad, so they won't further troubleshoot my problems. The computer "works", so my issues amount to an annoyance rather than complete system failure.
