Question about 'Speed Up Dial-Up Networking Initialization'

I am from Nepal. My ISP is Nepal Telecom. The bandwidth of Nepal Telecom is 64Kbps.
I use a 56Kbps modem. My dial-up internet connection is slow. Many times I am able
to connect in only less than 28Kbps. I use 128 RAM and 1.7GHz Intel Celeron processor
with VIA board. My download speed is slow too. I download at around 4 Kbps. How may
I fasten these factors.

Hello Lok. I don't know what your options are in Nepal, but a broadband connection
is the way to go if you are looking to speed-up your internet connection. I currently
have DSL, and I will never go back to dial-up. By the way, when I did have dial-up,
my 56K modem usually gave me a transfer rate of 4-6 Kbps. Your connection speed is
normal for dial-up. If you would like to speed-up your PC, in general, add more RAM.
It would be good to have at least 256MB, even better if you have 512MB.

The connection speed is likely controlled by factors other than your PC. Any noise
on the phone line & distance from an exchange can all have an effect. Note that
the connection speed displayed on connection is that moment in time, it will change
during the session. 28 is not unreasonable if you are not in a big city (and same
for download at 4). You could try talking to your ISP & phone company, but I suspect
thats as good as it gets.

So you are having a real trouble, 28 kbps that sucks isnt it. But that;s what is
in the air and I guess that will be the part of normal life for at least a few years
to come.
So if the slow internet connection is really giving you a headache then try the UTL
telephone to connect the internet for a month and you'll never have a complain afeterthen
by the way I have been using UTL for the last 11 months to surf the net.
So I think you'll get a contingent solution this way

Hello Deepen:
I found that you are using UTL Phone to connect to the internet and the fact that
you are satisfactory with its speed at which it surts and downloads. I am doubtful
if it is really true as the connection that they mentioned is in the UTL Nepal Website
is only 14.4 kbps. I am also thinking of using a UTL phone for internet purpose.
Please do mail me about this and I would be really thankful to you for your help.
Best regards,
Pratap

dear Lokji,
according to your prblem you are getting the right speed as the dail up connection

Make sure your modem is set to use "maximum speed possible", then if that doesn't
fix it its your line !

Hahaha, who told that UTL is fast enough? It's preety slow now a days and despite being
128kbps ISDN Dual Channel Dialup,it typically gives just below 56kbps,as ntc poor
dialup. And yeah,if you really want fast, either shift to adsl or browse at night(12AM)...tada!
