I strongly agree, routers are cheap. If you daisy-chain
PCs, every machine suffers a performance hit, and if
one goes down then whatever is connected to it loses
its connection. With a router, each computer can be
rebooted without affecting the others, and will only
see its own traffic. Also, most routers have at least
some degree of firewall capabilities, so a router can
help keep intruders out of your network. I still also
like to run firewall software on each computer, just
in case something gets through, but since getting a
router my firewall software has been very very quiet.
