Question about 'Rename the Recycle Bin'

I have a question about Rename
the Recycle Bin:

"To manually rename the Recycle Bin (Windows XP only): Right-click the Recycle Bin icon and select Properties." I'm not sure who wrote the above quote, on the 'Rename the Recycle Bin' page, but they obviously have a very "special" version of XP b/c as far as I know, you CAN'T rename the Recycle Bin in ANY version of XP that I'VE ever used, by right-clicking & selecting properties...AT ALL. Not even a little bit! Maybe I'm not right-clicking with the proper tone in my voice. Yeah...That's it. Ok, nevermind. That HAS to be it.

XP INFO

I just right-click the recycle bin and choose Rename. This is the registry modification you'll find on Kelly's Korner... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder] "Attributes"=hex:70,10,00,20 "CallForAttributes"=dword:00000040 But then I have a special version of XP Pro and this is what I have... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder] "Attributes"=hex:50,01,00,20 "CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000 Seems to me there are more idiots every day! ;-)

Yeah a special version! Actually the instructions were correct if you had Norton
System Works installed on your PC. Norton created a "protected" recycle bin and after
that you could rename the Recycle Bin with the method described, I know cause I used
to have Norton on my machine and was able to rename it in just such a way. However,
since I uninstalled Norton I can no longer right click it to rename it though mine
is still renamed from the time I did have Norton SW.

Otherwise you need to edit the registry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
Create a new String Value named "LocalizedString" (without quotes) double click it
and enter name you want in Value Data. Log off then back on, viola! BE SURE TO BACK
UP REGISTRY BEFORE THIS JUST IN CASE!!!

I finnally found a way to Rename the Recycle Bin !!!!

I Finally found a WAY !! I came across "this" website one day and thought to myself, "Hmmm It would be nice to change it's name to Anything but recycle bin", And so like all you poeple out there I also tried all the methods listed on this site, NONE of them worked for me. BUT,,, I did find a way. and Here is how I did it: I have XP configured to look like Classic Windows except visual styles turned on. One day I started windows and found All my settings had returned to those of a newly installed Windows XP. While I was resetting XP back to my liking I right clicked on the Recycle bin to Delete some of the preinstalled "desktop garbage" windows places on the desktop. Thats when I noticed something NEW on the "Right Click menu", the Word RENAME.... it was there plain as day. I selected it and renamed my recycle bin. So here is what I suggest to all you not so enthusiastic Bill (fagget ass) Gates victims out there::: FIRST: Using windows-system tools-files and settings transfer wizzard, preform a backup of just your settings. Save this file onto a disk(removeable media). THEN: Restore your windows XP settings as close to original (XP) as possible. RESTART windows. NEXT: Using Windows system tools-files and settings transfer wizzard Restore you back up settings. THEN: Immediatly BEFORE YOU CLICK ON the START button, RIGHT click on the Recycle bin and RENAME the recycle bin, DONT CLICK ON THE START BUTTON, what ever you do, and Be carefully to select a good name the first time, because once you click on the START button, you cannot rename it, (unless you go through the whole process again). If you have any questions-- write vehicros at war-hammer.net

An easier way to rename Recycle Bin

I found this simple little solution on tweakxp.com;

Open up your favorite plain text editor (notepad, for example) and copy the following
text into a new file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder]
"Attributes"=hex:50,01,00,20
"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000

Now save this text file as a .reg file, such as "Rename Recycle Bin.reg" and put
it
wherever you like. Double click on the file, and when it asks you if you want to
import it into the registry, choose Yes. You'll notice a new option in the right-click
menu to Rename the Recycle Bin. You can also rename it by highlighing the Bin and
hitting F2, or by highlighting it and clicking on the file name (just like renaming
any other file.

If you want to turn off this new feature, make another .reg file with the same content
as above, but change the first number in the "Attributes"=hex: line from 50 to 40
and
import that file into the registry.

Hello,

Someone here made this suggestion and it worked for me: In Windows XP to change the name of your recycle bin: Open registry. Go to: 1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE 2. SOFTWARE 3. Classes 4. CLSID 5. {645FF040-5081-101B etc. 6. Rename LocalizedString to: LocalizedString old. 7. Create new string called LocalizedString. 8. Name it whatever you want. 9. Exit registry. Try it. You'll like it :-)

Thanks, Brent
