How to delete 'Print Out a Directory Listing' ?

Microsoft have a system for printing directories in WindowsXP (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321379) There was a request a year or so ago on how to remove this function, once installed (Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 11:14 am, Paul Wright ). There appeared to be no answer on how to remove it at that time. I have installed it exacly as recommended by microsoft - and it works - but other directory printers onbtainable from the internet are much better. Can anyone help me remove the microsoft one from my system, please?

There is a Beautiful thing called Windows Registry. Just open “regedit” and search for the name you called in the actions list. For example I called it “Print Directory Listing”. Or just goto the following location. This location may be different if you’re not running windows XP. Backup registry before removing anything. Remove the item you added. Close registry, you may have to reboot. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

ALSO, If you want to fix Double Click Always Opens Search in Windows Explorer If you mess around in the registry, or install some different software packages that add things to the right-click menu, you can end up with a problem where the default action on a folder is always “Search…”, even though you set it to something else. There’s a quick and easy fix for this problem. Open up regedit.exe by using Start\Run and then browse down to this registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell Double-click on the default value and set it to “none” without the quotes, as seen here:

Hello friend, i followed the same procedure (editing the regedit) what you said. But unfortunately now doubleclick on the folder prompts to "open with" dialog box instead of opening the folder. Please give me the solution. i am in big trouble.

Thankyou Aj. It took some time for me to get the courage to fiddle with the Registry - but it wasn't the savage beast I'd imagined!

Hi, AJ. Also trying to get rid of the "always opens search" when one clicks a folder. Followed you up to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, but can't find 'Directory\shell' in the long list that ensues. Any advice? Thanks. John
