One way only file sharing

I have two computers on a home network with a Linksys router. One is a
desktop running Win XP SP-1, the second is a laptop also running Win
XP(SP-2). Both computers can access the web, get and send mail and so
on.
Within MyNetwork Places both computers "see" each other. I have set up
some shared files on each computer. I can use the desktop to map a
folder on the laptop with no problems but I can't get it to work the
other way. When I try to map one of the shared folders on my desktop
to the laptop I get the following error:
"The mapped network drive could not be created because of the
following error occured:
Not enough server storage is available to process this command."
I get the same type error if I use Explorer to try to "see" the
contents of a shared folder on the desktop. I can see the shared
folder by name but if I try to open it the error comes up. Going the
other way, i.e. from the desktop computer to the laptop works fine as
I can see the shared folders on the laptop and open them, etc.
The message makes no sense to me since both systems have several
gigabytes of free space.

Do you have Acronis True Image installed on either computer, or a USB2 external disk
attached to either computer?
In any case, see this MS KB article:

Yes I do have Acronis on both computers but it is not "active" in that I only run
it once a week. I do have a USB external disk but it too is off except during the
week ends when I do the backups.
I saw the article about the regit edit thing and did that on the laptop. Current
setting for IRPStack size is 18. There is no entry for this on the desktop, and I
haven't changed is since the desktop "sees" the shared laptop files.

Okay I added IRPStackSize (value 15) to my desktop and still no mapping. I did try
to "see" the contents of a file since all of the shared folders show up under Net'hood.
When I tried to open one I got the following message:
"\\office-xp\My eBooks is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrater of this server to find out if you have
access permissions" Below this was the same "Not enough server storage......" as
when I tried mapping a folder.

My EBooks is situated within the My Documents folder. If you chose to make your
My Documents folder private, it will not be available for sharing.

My Documents is/was shared. I just changed it. I have some other folders not in My
Documents too and they also give the same error message. I've just removed sharing
on all the folders that had it and will do a restart in hopes they will go away from
Net'hood. I intend to make a new folder in C: called "test" that is set for sharing.
I'll put a single short text file in it.

Thanks for the help.

No problem!
This same thing happened to me out of the blue on several customer sites in a row.
In each case, I was setting up Acronis True Image v8 as the backup utility and directing
it to back up to external HDDs connected to one of the computers.
In my case I was made aware of the solution by scouring the Event Viewer, but then
later on I discovered that it was a FAQ at the Acronis support site.
