No, it is not applicable to Windows 2000, XP and 2003 unless you are a hacker (or
unless you know what is a kernel).

For Win XP there is a program called bootskin. Works a treat.

And it installs a driver (vidstub.sys) that causes a crash while booting.

Have you ever heard of the Windows Kernel (a.k.a. VMM32.VXD), the Windows NT Kernel
(a.k.a. Executive + HAL + Win32 Kernel Mode API), the Linux kernel, the UNIX kernel,
etc., etc., etc.? Kernel = Operating System Low-level Core.
I'm not engineer, but I know what I am talking about, and you don't. Search on the
Web for it if you have any doubts. Have you ever heard of Windows, by the way?

Search in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for "STOP 0x00000050 vidstub.sys". It is a
known problem. I dunno, probably a conflict with my video device: STOP 0x50 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
driver VIDSTUB.SYS (has a bad checksum, by the way). I tried it and uninstalled it.
I'm prefer the /sos boot param to display all the information about what's the kernel
doing while I boot (Pending File rename operations, for example). The same for Linux
(splash=0 parameter for the kernel). I like to see what happens while my system boot,
to avoid blue surprises.
And I am not a Microsoft lover, by the way.

"Kernel" is the core of an OS (or anything for that matter), "Colonel" is a rank

A military rank. The user obviously didn't open the dictionary before trying to correct
me. I have an old dictionary (1995), and the word KERNEL is defined as CORE. The
dictionaries never lie.

I think you're possibly spending too much time at the computer - this is called 'humor'
/ a play on words .....

You could hack your registry, but try going to Wincustomize
instead. Their boot and logon screens are free, as well as some other stuff. Been
using this site for three+ years without any problems - and without any spyware detected.
